Cheap Bmx Bikes Under 50

Other travel (1) ...

I think I have said before, this trip was my third Autumn trip to Japan. That's why some places quite known as Nara Kamakura or not not appear in my schedule.

Time passed and I do not remember all the details, but I'll try to describe these 2 trips.

1. August 2000 - Summer Travel

This trip, I spent with my professor of Japanese at the time, Mr. Takemoto and girlfriend. I was not learning Japanese, so that for a year and knew just a few words. My teacher took charge of organizing the trip and acted as my guide: conditions cooler than a traditional travel agent.

It goes back a long time already, but I remember very well one thing: it was very very very hot! Japan is first and foremost been a sweltering heat, even at night and in all stores with air conditioning running at full speed. With the sound of crickets ...
Bonus season is still Matsuri (祭り), summer festivals with fireworks, yatai, dances in a kimono. And what of August, there is the festival of Obon , National Day of the Dead. But unfortunately I do not remember having seen one of them, except perhaps a small Matsuri in Asakusa.

Travel time: about 18 days

  • First week: increased mainly in Tokyo, with Japanese classes in the morning and afternoon visits. Bulk:

------- -Visit of Asakusa: Senso ji temple and Flame Asahi building. This was the first temple I visited in Japan and this time, I have good memories: Keepers of the door, the big paper lantern, the shopping promenade, the incense and prayers followers ...
------- -A riverboat ride on the Sumida River direction Odaiba. I remember strings of blue huts on the banks of the river, the last refuge of the homeless in Tokyo. And then on the Odaiba Venus Fort mall whose interior deco architecture resembles an Italian village (it feels like an amusement park).
------- - Omotesando and Takeshita dori , but in less depth than 2007, and then it was not Sunday. I remember the plaque affixed to the sidewalk that said Harajuku, Elysian Fields' or something like that.
------- Shinjuku-day: climb up the building of the town hall to see the city, I remember also tour the surrounding buildings.
------- - Shinjuku by night, with golden gay and neon: become a classic since ...
------- -Attend a training session Sumo: through a friend of my teacher, it was one of the most impressive trip. See these behemoths breathe and sweat a few yards from home ...
------- -visit the garden of the imperial palace, Yasukuni Shrine followed (which I have not visited the museum) ... I found the place very zen ...
------- -Nihonbashi Bridge : I wanted to see what bridge, reconstruction of the man who marked the starting point of all roads in Japan. But with the hideous highway which covers ...
------- - Ginza, neighborhood department store: On Sunday, as the streets become pedestrian.
------- - Shibuya, where I went to buy a CD of a Japanese rock band, Spitz.
------- -The district of Ueno Park : the small temple at the center of the lake, a Japanese drum band, visit the small museum Shitamachi which traces the life of former Tokyo (sympathetic) and the Museum of the Western Art (with works by Rodin, Monet ... interesting but little explanation in English).
------- - Ameyoko , near Ueno: I remember having really enjoyed the constant agitation of the neighborhood full of shops close to each other and selling anything and what.

  • Second week: traveling in Kansai (with JRPass), and to Hiroshima. Accommodation in various hotels.
Barely a day in Kyoto:

------- -The Golden Pavilion (disappointing: apart from the traditional photo of the lake, nothing special about this place ).
------- The flag- money (nicer: a stroll in the garden on a hillside) and the temple Eikan do (very quiet) followed by the path of philosophy, this path that can reach Gion along a small canal. Always a very pleasant time.
------- -course the classic crossing of Higashiyama, traditional stalls and ends with the Kiyomizu Temple , but this time of day.
------- -A funny idea I had: Eigamura , Toei cinema village, kind of theme park dedicated to film the firm, with old reconstructed streets.
------- -My teacher, a fan of flamenco, insisted to take me to a bar where they drink, sing and dance to the sounds of acoustic guitars ... The Japanese know how to let go when you need it!

Then I think we left Kyoto, we stayed at Tenri village where the sect is based namesake. The brother of my teacher being responsible in this sect. Well when we say cult, it is immediately cold in the back but I did not have to undergo pressure from them, and I found them very welcoming. I did not convert so far ...

------- - Nara: A city tour organized by bus (it's not my thing). Within hours the Kofuku ji, the Great Buddha Todai ji, Kasuga Shrine and stone lanterns, and then the naughty deer roaming freely in the park ...
------- -Just 1 hour or 2 in Osaka, just enough time to descend and Teramachi Dotombori

and leave ... Then we headed to the West:
------- - The Himeji Castle : On the advice of my teacher, a beautiful white castle World Heritage. Truly superb.
------- -At the end, in Kyushu, we spent an evening at Kokura. Without having anything to visit with my guide friends in this city.
------- - Hiroshima: A lot of emotions in the museum of the bomb and the Peace Park, a tribute to the victims of the atomic bomb. I would go back one day ...
------- - Miyajima : just 1 hour on this small island sacred jewel with her shrine on the beach and mountain path. It's little and I went back at the longer trip later.

  • Third week (3 days): I stayed at Matsudo (a suburb of Tokyo), in the family of my teacher. The opportunity to experience life in a real Japanese family. I remember that night Karaoke, and 2 / 3 of Aznavour songs that contained the catalog. I sang as a pot ...

------- "We've got to spend an evening at a Chinese restaurant in Yokohama's Chinatown . It surprised me at the time to see that even in Asian countries there could have Chinatowns, with a very special atmosphere ...
------- Matsudo -A, I visited the residence Tojo, former home of Tokugawa Akitaka , brother of the last shogun of Japan. As a child he was sent to the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867 to represent his country and lived there for many years. There he learned the French before returning to Japan as an advisor to the emperor and help modernize the country. I remember that the guard had shown excerpts from the diary of Akitaka, written in French ...
------- - Yebisu Garden Place: Another funny idea of visiting a complex of buildings and shops in a quiet quarter in the center of Tokyo with a replica of a French chateau, which houses a restaurant, Robuchon.
------- - Tokyo Tower: For my last evening, a small tower at the foot of the Tokyo Tower is illuminated, do not give me want to step on it ...

Failing to have pictures (at the time, I did not have a APN), I finally many memories of this trip ...

Best of ...

Exits to take stock, here's what I think is the highlight of my trip: Sure, it was a beautiful trip, but there are moments that will stay with for longer than others in my memory.

So in chronological order:

• Red Autumn Tree course whether Nikko , Kawaguchiko , Tsuwano at Shodoshima at Daitoku ji Kyoto or at Koishikawa Korakuen . • The
Shichi Go San , the Japanese tradition that celebrates the children in their finest clothes. • The temple
Toshogu in Nikko, very touristy but for good reason.

• The pervasive view of Mount Fuji from the valley of five lakes, which seems to keep you under its protective figure. • The
dance geisha in Kyoto, a unique moment.

• The charged atmosphere of the Duck River in Kyoto on Saturday night.
• The Hostage Nenbutsu ji temple , and its nice statues on the hill Arashiyama, Kyoto.

• Old Funaoka onsen in Kyoto full, and its popular atmosphere and simple.
• The evening restaurant Matsue, to enjoy the 7 fish specialties.

• The city of Matsue in fact: the castle, the museum Adachi the sunset Lake ... a pleasant city. • The
sanctuary of Tsuwano, and the religious festival. His carp his small Christian chapel and yatai . • The amazing temple
Mara Kannon at Tawarayama.

• The tranquil island Shodoshima : its olive his footpath .
• Sleep in a yurt
to Naoshima

• Madness Dotombori in Osaka.
• The food the food the food: the
Tofu to Kyoto or Nikko the Yakiniku Osaka, the cuisine of ryokan, the sobas ...

• The quiet neighborhood of Yanaka in Tokyo.
• The very interesting museum
Edo-Tokyo .

• A true nature hike to Nishizawa . • The
Koishikawa Korakuen at sunset.

• The mosque Tokyo, and this final ride on a Sunday at Yoyogi

And more than anything, I I loved wandering around with my camera, trying to shoot pictures for you to enjoy ... it was really cool!

Among the disappointments, there are still Tottori (there was more because of the storm), Izumo not worth the detour, some temples in Kyoto, Tawarayama onsen (the guide Lonely Planet indicated as a gem), Kurashiki , the museum Naoshima on certain aspects Osaka

... Well, that was my Best of ... I'll try not to read me because otherwise I'll be tempted to add any other stuff ...

The next post will talk about other trips ... ...

PS: I can not get enough: a little song for the road ...

Pokemons With Big Tits

Japan, the balance

I could not close this blog without writing a final assessment ...

For an overview of all the blog posts, you can already walk in the Travelogue which appears right. I'm not going to come back here in detail on the content of Akaiblog ...

and OR WHEN Japan

From 5 to 26 November 2007: I had already seen the summer and spring in Japan during my previous trips, this trip it was therefore a Fall trip.
I tried to find places where you could observe the magnificence of Koyo (the glow of autumn leaves). He had to choose the dates accordingly, neither too early nor too late. By using this site for example to get an idea on dates the arrival of autumn leaves and the best places to observe them. You can even follow the Advanced overnight on some sites (the same information available for the cherry blossoms in spring).

I also preferred the places I had not visited thoroughly both before (as Kyoto, Osaka or near Mount Fuji ), or that I wanted discover, after having heard (or as Kurashiki Tsuwano ). I also chose other places, saying it would allow me to visit one another Japan '( Shodoshima , Tawarayama onsen, the mosque of Tokyo, Museum of Human Rights in Osaka ) question ... to get out of beaten track ...

can be seen on the plan, I'm mainly focused on Honshu, the main island of Japan, going for a ride to the West (Matsue Tsuwano) and the Center (Kyoto, Okayama , Osaka).

HOW does it cost Japan

Well, in these times of crises, the exchange rate is more entirely to the benefit of Europe, which was not the case during my trip.

• The ticket, purchased two months in advance in an agency on the internet ( Billetdiscount ): around 900 €
• JRPass for 21 days (45100 yen for 14 days): 57,700 € = 500 yen
• Hotels: about 107 535 € = 695 yen
• Budget on site: 95 000 € = 614 won, which I would add several passage through ATMs (at least about 40 € per day for meals, tickets, etc ...)
This gives us a total of about 2800 € for 3 weeks all inclusive. It's not cheap but not excessive.

NB: Most hotels, restaurants and shops do not accept credit cards (even Japanese) in Japan. In addition, all the ATMs do not take foreign cards (thankfully those in the Combined 7Eleven accept: there across the country). We must plan to carry a certain amount of cash in his pocket.

HOW organize his own trip to Japan

Given the prices charged by some tour operators ( Here jours/3000 for 12 €, there jours/1500 for 8 €), I would strongly advise you to do yourself. And if you do not know how to go about it ... the Akaiblog is here to help! Remember when you even bring a tourist guide (Lonely Planet, Gallimard, etc ...).

• Start by organizing a schedule: what I want to see how much time to see where I go ... Organizing a small circuit and gradually clarify the timetable, with places, hotels, and trains. Very important: The site Hyperdia, which calculates the train schedules can know how long to go from one city to another (eg this is how I knew I could not go to Amanoashidate) . You can specify the different possibilities of visits, and the addresses of hotels, etc. ... I think I had to start seriously thinking about in July (so four months in advance).
• Travel dates are specified? The first thing to do is buy the plane ticket. Mine was purchased on July 25.
• Do not forget to buy the JRPass (not too early or too late: I think there are deadlines). I bought mine at an agency specializing in trips to Japan, Paris.
• The most difficult is to book hotels in advance. The Internet is increasingly easy to do via email, even if your written English speakers will not always understandable. I started around September 8.
• Well, once it all done, it'll just take a glance meets your schedule, and ... what to pack!
• Just for this is the case, remember to bring some used drugs. A good pair of sneakers as well (I had my light bulbs). Autumn in Japan did not seem as cold as in Paris, but do not forget your sweater and your jacket. In any case, it is much drier than autumn in France!

Regarding this blog, I still have 2 or 3 things to say in the days to come, then I 'm eclipse gently.

The trip I told here began November 4, 2007 ... it's been almost a year and with (or because) of this blog, I'm not quite back ... I'm worried a little the end of blogging ... but also a little rejoicing because casually, he gave me a job, this Akaiblog!

Saturday Night Live Christopher Lowell Show

Passing Ueno ...

Day 20 - Tokyo

I definitely did not want this last night in Japan ends, because rather than taking the last metro to Nezu, I prefer to get off at Ueno and make the rest of the way on foot. A half hour walk in the dark and icy ...

I do not know why, but in a big city, and in a place a bit dark like this, while elsewhere j 'would tend to remain on guard in Tokyo I feel almost safe.
Japan is a very safe country, but now the streets are empty, and I walked along the Lake Park
Ueno (上 野) where there a quiet dignity of an old horror movie ... one on the horizon ...

Footprint Tattoos With Wings

A small corner of Japan ...

You've all been waiting impatiently ... the best of Japanese technology ... a unique experience for your buttocks ... Akaieric tested it for you dear readers ... here is the Authentic shower toilet seat to Japan!

Before toilet bowls today, there was another type of toilet in Japan, there are still some copies of old public toilets. It was a simple slot with a curved portion. We had to make his case squatting I guess. I do not know if, apart from some seniors who are accustomed, the Japanese continue to use this type of toilet. Between these toilets and those that we present now, there is a world of difference.

I had already talked : So we find in Japan this type of very specific bowls. We call these glasses electronic Washlet.Très popular with seniors who are looking more comfort, a home is equipped with two in Japan.

Proof

So the test result: it's a bit surprising at first: I jumped and it made me laugh a bit silly. Then this weird feeling of having wet buttocks. I'm not sure to be a big fan, but it must be a matter of habit ... In any case since I came back to France, I miss them a bit ... those Japanese toilets

You can say that I'm wet to bring you fresh news from Japan!

PS: Here are some Internet addresses to get this kind of spectacle in France. It's still a bit expensive ...

Tokyo stock

Hula! The Tokyo stock! Great piece! Is that there are many things to do in Tokyo! And I saw lots of stuff. I guess I'll forget some things, but hey, I think with all the guidebooks that exist in this city, you will not have trouble finding what you are missing here.

WHAT see in Tokyo?

As often happens in Japanese cities, neighborhoods are organized around the means of transportation, trains and subways.

In this case to Tokyo we usually speak of an 'empty center', referring to the imperial palace and its garden, located in the center of the city. Neighborhoods are organized in circles around this center, which is well represented by the line of the JR Yamanote train line, which surrounds the center and can go through all the main tourist areas of Tokyo. So take a ticket for the Yamanote and do a complete permit must already have an idea of the city.

The atmosphere in some neighborhoods is an attraction in itself: it has seen with his youth Harajuku and sassy, with neon nightclubs of Shinjuku or the quiet streets of Yanaka ... Tokyo is a city of a thousand faces. So we baladons

from neighborhood to neighborhood:

Center:

I did not visit any place in downtown Tokyo this time, but it is not without interest ...

  • The Imperial Palace: Residence of the Emperor, and thus closed to the public, but you can stroll through the gardens, watching the walls and bridges. (Garden Palace: 9h to 16h - closed Friday and Monday)
  • The Yasukuni jinja shrine located next to the zen palace. Dedicated to Japanese war dead, controversial because it contains within it the graves of war criminals, however, it is very beautiful. There is also a small museum.
  • Tokyo Station: The exterior of the building has kept its architecture of the Meiji era.
  • Ginza: This is the oldest upscale neighborhood of the capital. Wide avenues filled with luxury shops. I suggest you go for a ride on the roofs of department stores in the neighborhood who are the oldest in Japan. Note that on weekends, the neighborhood streets become pedestrian.

South:

  • Tokyo Tower (9h to 22h - 820 yen): Well of course, compared to our national Eiffel Tower, it does not look: red-painted white, surrounded by buildings taller than she, and holding between its legs a square building hideous. But I remember having spent some time at sunset during a previous trip.
  • Roppongi, another place for nightlife packed with bars and clubs, also known for building the Roppongi Hills, filled with shops and restaurants ...
  • Tsukiji (24/24 - free admission): A place not to miss the biggest fish market in the world! Fish of all kinds, from the bizarre to the most common. The most impressive is the tuna, big fish lined up in ranks by hundreds, and cut or saber saw. The must is to go there before 7am (so much for sleeping in). Local restaurants are well on the freshest sushi in the capital. (Note: do not think that after the visit, you'll feel the fish all day. Here, the fish are ultra cool.)

Farther south:

  • Odaiba : A ride on this large artificial island may be of interest, starting by taking the monorail running through the great Yurikamome Rainbow Bridge. We can then visit the shopping complexes theme: Venus Forte, Italian architecture, and Decker, whose decor is reminiscent of old Japan. One can also go around the wheel, or else walk on one of the few beaches in Tokyo, along with the Statue of Liberty. Complex Oedo Onsen Onsen Monogatari (2700yen 11am to 9am) can also be an option.

In the West:

Like me, take a nice walk one day in one of the nicest neighborhoods of Tokyo, on Sunday, preferably. In chronological order:

  • Visit Tokyo Camii : Off the beaten track, a superb brand new mosque. Type of building you would not expect to find in Tokyo (Metro Yoyogi Uehara).
  • Strolling in Yoyogi Park : very pleasing to see so many trees for its relaxed atmosphere for reigns, each engaged in Tokyo's hobby. For example Dog Run, romp where do the doggies and their Japanese masters.
  • Observe dance hooligans : The entrance of Yoyogi Park is the gathering place of those nostalgic for the good old days of Rock'nRoll.
  • Play the many street musicians who improvise concerts around the park. There is plenty of choice ...
  • Bypass Olympic Stadium by Kenzo Tange , with its unique architecture.
  • Go
  • be photographed in the company of Harajuku girls in their outlandish costumes.
  • Go Omotesando Avenue can be stopped at one of its cafes, or in shopping malls and stores: Omotesando Hills, Laforet and the Oriental Bazaar to buy souvenirs.
  • Lunch: real crepes at the restaurant Le Bretagne .
  • Cultivating before the works of artists from the Design Festa (free admission - 11h to 20h).
  • Browse the streets of Aoyama , art galleries and designer boutiques.
  • You can not go back without the little Harajuku Street Takeshita dori , where is the clothes shop the most original of the capital ... and the customers that go with it!
  • Unfortunately I could not go to the Meiji jingu shrine (open from sunrise to sunset-free): built in honor of the Emperor Meiji, known for its huge torii.

  • Shibuya, the fashion district is not far away. And if like me you do not plan redo your wardrobe, you can go say hello to Hachiko , the most faithful dog in the world.

  • Shinjuku and neon: a unique atmosphere to enjoy especially at night, in strolling on Yasukuni dori. Not to be missed of course.
  • Golden gay: I like this neighborhood, its streets with an intimate and somewhat sordid ...
  • cho Kabuki: The Other Face of the night: sex, bars hostess. To ensure that the Japanese are not always wise ...
  • The mayor of Tokyo: To the west of the station, is the studious side of Shinjuku. This is where the headquarters of the Tokyo city hall, 2 huge twin towers built by Kenzo Tange and surrounded by a cluster of other buildings. It should absolutely go to the viewing platform of the towers to have a unique perspective on the city (9.30-22h, various times, free).

the North West

  • Ikebukuro Sunshine City and (Bridge Observer: 10am 21.30 - 620 yen) was in the beginning of the trip, visiting this building with views of Tokyo at night. The building itself did not really packed. This is a neighborhood best known for its shops (one more).

the North East

  • Tokyo Dome and amusement park (10 to 22? - Price depending on the carousel): I did not have time to do a ride but with city views, it can be fun. We'll do that next time. We will perhaps even see a baseball game at Tokyo Dome ...
  • Koishikawa Korakuen (9h to 17h - 300yen): Beautiful autumn garden, and I imagine in other seasons too. Unmissable.
  • Ochanomizu , the area of music: With its musical instrument shops, bookstores and cafes, a nice student district.
  • St Nicolai : A curiosity: a true Catholic Orthodox Cathedral, right in Tokyo. Even if I could not enter (doors closed to dusk), the place is quite impressive and worth a visit.
  • Akihabara: A neighborhood dedicated to electronics and technology, with lots of stores at bargain prices, but also the neighborhood of manga fans and cosplay-bars.

Going a little further west, one comes across the district Iidabashi / Kagurazaka, with the channel cafe (where I went early in the trip), but also Institute Franco Japanese (with its media and its brewery. Various events are held). It is said that this would be very nice area of Tokyo's French Quarter.

  • The old quarter of Yanaka , with its quiet old houses, offers a pleasant ride. Some traditional shops, the quiet sanctuary Nezu, the Cat House .
  • Ueno Park and its many attractions: Usually I go there but I have not had time. It is a great park with a lake at its center. In spring the park is taken over by the Japanese came to see the cherry blossoms. Flowering water lilies from the lake also offers a very good show. Several temples. With some bonus interesting museums: the National Museum (9h30-17h or 20h, 420Yen, closed on Mondays), a must if you're interested in the history of Japan and Japanese art (armor, Ainu pottery, prints, screens ...), the museum Western Art (9.30-17h, 420yen, closed Mondays) with works by Rodin, Van Gogh, .... There's also the small museum Shitamachi (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on Mondays), which is an interactive life of a poor neighborhood in the Edo period.
  • Ameyoko: These are 'smart' in Tokyo. There is virtually something for not very expensive (food, watches, bags, jeans, etc ...) with a single street entertainment. I regret not going there this time. The area has flourished under the American occupation with the black market and small shops that are installed under the railway tracks ...

Ryogoku / Asakusa, two areas known to be the cradle of traditional Japanese culture in Tokyo. Although they are now highly urbanized, one can still find some traces of the past.

At Ryogoku:

  • Edo Tokyo Museum (10h to 18h - 600 yen, closed Mondays): A museum built in order to plunge us into the world of samurai and the Meiji era. It will appeal to even those who are not very adept museums.
  • Ryogoku Kokugikan : This modern building houses one of the most famous stadium, sumo in Japan, and a small museum at the Sumo (10am to 16:30, closed on weekends). You can book a ticket to a tournament, but check before that sumo wrestlers are not on tour championship.
  • Go take a sumo training can be a more attractive option than a game. Some beya therefore welcome visitors. You can approach the mastodons closely, to see them sweat and breathe. To have already seen I can say that's pretty impressive.

A Asakusa:

  • The temple Senso ji (6h-17h) must be called, is always full of tourists. After crossing the main gate guarded by two guardian gods, one crosses his path lined with traditional shops. The temple is not bad but compared those Kyoto ...
  • The amusement park is an old park Hanayashiki backed the temple. I've never been there but it seems that its old world charm of old park of the 60 is worth the detour.
  • How about a stroll on the banks of the Sumida River, overlooking the Asahi building and its yellow cloud?

Day trips outside of Tokyo:

  • Ghibli Museum, Mitaka in (1000 yen): Visited during my previous trip, a whole museum for the characters cartoons from the studio of Miyazaki. Do not expect a theme park, but it is a museum that will delight both children and parents. Warning: The seats are not sold on the spot, must be booked in advance. Any explanations here .
  • The throat of Nishizawa : Well, even if the trees were a little bare, I admit that this hike off the beaten tourist was a great time to discover the nature of the Japanese mountains. I recommend it!
  • Fuji Go Ko : located at the foot of Mount Fuji 5 lakes area offers an exceptional view of the sacred mountain.
  • Climbing Mount Fuji: Not because it is only practiced in the summer and requires little preparation.
  • Hakone: Another lake where you can see Fuji san, but less so than in the region Fuji Go Ko known for its onsen, I suggest you take a romantic train Odakyu line, to the circuit in the cable car in the mountains of Hakone, followed by the field of fumaroles, then across the lake on the fake pirate ships. Do not forget to visit the onsens. It's been very 'Circuit for tourists, but it's quite enjoyable.
  • Kamakura: The ancient capital of Japan is known for its numerous temples and a beach for surfers. I recommend the Zeni Arai Benten temple, where we just wash his money, and of course the great bronze Buddha.
  • Yokohama: This is the city of Tokyo, so great that the two cities meet. Known for its Chinatown filled with restaurants quite expensive, with its neon supposed to think about China, and a small temple at the center. This is not my favorite spot and I prefer the waterfront of the port reached with minato mirai and Landmark Tower, tallest tower in Japan where I remember having watched the sunset. I also remember Motomachi and Yamate , a neighborhood in height with residences of foreign diplomats from 1860: France and the cemetery yama foreigners. Ca I really liked.
  • Nikko: I stayed two days, but it is possible to make a day trip in this small town in the mountains.

HOW go to Tokyo?

  • By train: Of course, all of the Shinkansen leaving Tokyo Station central enough, those of Shinjuku and Ueno are also quite important.
  • By plane: The airport at Narita, where there are most of the international aircraft, is located quite far from Tokyo. I'm not sure the bus or taxi ride is worth the shot. Cons by train, there are several choices: If you want to use your JRPass directly, you can have it validated at the airport and take the Narita Express (1h-2940yen or JRPass). There is also the JR Rapid Service (1:30). I prefer the Keisei Skyliner (1h - 1920 yen) is going to Ueno.

HOW get around Tokyo?

  • With the JR Pass: You can use the JR Yamanote line, but it handy in my opinion will not allow you to go anywhere. It will then alternate with the subway.
  • By Metro: There are several companies with the opportunity to purchase passes for the day. No problem all the stations are written in Roman alphabet. Read my post on the subway to the use of tickets. The 1-day ticket valid on all subways worth 1000yen.
  • By taxi: I've never tried but you see everywhere. It can help if troubleshooting.
  • Cycling: It might be nice but Tokyo is still a big city ...

OR sleep in Tokyo?

  • My choice: sawanoya ryokan, which I describe in detail here .

I leave you a whole bunch of other addresses below

The Manneken Pis of Tokyo ...

And yes, in addition to having already mosque a true Breton creperie and Statue of Liberty , Tokyo can s'enorgeuillir to have its own Manneken Pis , no offense to our Belgian friends! It is a pleasant meeting on a station platform ...

The little guy who is pissing on the platform of the Yamanote train line (山 手) Hamamatsucho station (浜 松 町 駅). And like its namesake in Brussels, he is dressed each day with a new costume ...

Odaiba: Amazing big city at night ... Japan

Day 20 - Tokyo

is my last night in Tokyo, and my last night in Japan. Tomorrow I'm leaving for France ... Then I do not want this night ends, and I'm walking around ... Why not go to Odaiba, to get a last view of Tokyo illuminated?

Odaiba (お 台場) is a large artificial island that has been built in Tokyo Bay. Here once was a fortress, which some vestiges remain, responsible for defending the entrance to the city of maritime invaders.

Today it is home to apartment buildings and offices (including one built by Fuji TV Kenzo Tange ), but also several major shopping complexes ( Venus Forte example, whose interior resembles an Italian city), a huge Ferris wheel and a game center, museums and modern onsen-like amusement park, Oedo Onsen Monogatari (like spa world, I have to come next time). But unlike the rest of the city, where space is lacking, here there is space, parks and wide avenues, and ... a beach from which one sees Tokyo as a backdrop.

After I made a mistake last time subway, I walk the line Yurikamome , a driverless monorail that crosses the Rainbow Bridge and plunges into the night ...

The beach is empty ... the city lights are reflected in the river ... A side me, the Statue of Liberty. This replica of the Pont de Grenelle (Paris), was installed here during the Year of France in Japan.
Miss Liberty notes, as I slowly fall asleep ...
Tokyo

Time flies and a glance at my watch finally get me out of my meditation I'll just hurry not to miss the last train ...
Sayonara Miss Liberty! Sayonara Tokyo!
