From 5 to 26 November 2007: I had already seen the summer and spring in Japan during my previous trips, this trip it was therefore a Fall trip.
I tried to find places where you could observe the magnificence of Koyo (the glow of autumn leaves). He had to choose the dates accordingly, neither too early nor too late. By using this site for example to get an idea on dates the arrival of autumn leaves and the best places to observe them. You can even follow the Advanced overnight on some sites (the same information available for the cherry blossoms in spring).
I also preferred the places I had not visited thoroughly both before (as Kyoto, Osaka or near Mount Fuji ), or that I wanted discover, after having heard (or as Kurashiki Tsuwano ). I also chose other places, saying it would allow me to visit one another Japan '( Shodoshima , Tawarayama onsen, the mosque of Tokyo, Museum of Human Rights in Osaka ) question ... to get out of beaten track ...
can be seen on the plan, I'm mainly focused on Honshu, the main island of Japan, going for a ride to the West (Matsue Tsuwano) and the Center (Kyoto, Okayama , Osaka).
HOW does it cost Japan
Well, in these times of crises, the exchange rate is more entirely to the benefit of Europe, which was not the case during my trip.
• The ticket, purchased two months in advance in an agency on the internet ( Billetdiscount ): around 900 €
• JRPass for 21 days (45100 yen for 14 days): 57,700 € = 500 yen
• Hotels: about 107 535 € = 695 yen
• Budget on site: 95 000 € = 614 won, which I would add several passage through ATMs (at least about 40 € per day for meals, tickets, etc ...)
This gives us a total of about 2800 € for 3 weeks all inclusive. It's not cheap but not excessive.
NB: Most hotels, restaurants and shops do not accept credit cards (even Japanese) in Japan. In addition, all the ATMs do not take foreign cards (thankfully those in the Combined 7Eleven accept: there across the country). We must plan to carry a certain amount of cash in his pocket.
HOW organize his own trip to Japan
Given the prices charged by some tour operators ( Here jours/3000 for 12 €, there jours/1500 for 8 €), I would strongly advise you to do yourself. And if you do not know how to go about it ... the Akaiblog is here to help! Remember when you even bring a tourist guide (Lonely Planet, Gallimard, etc ...).
• Start by organizing a schedule: what I want to see how much time to see where I go ... Organizing a small circuit and gradually clarify the timetable, with places, hotels, and trains. Very important: The site Hyperdia, which calculates the train schedules can know how long to go from one city to another (eg this is how I knew I could not go to Amanoashidate) . You can specify the different possibilities of visits, and the addresses of hotels, etc. ... I think I had to start seriously thinking about in July (so four months in advance).
• Travel dates are specified? The first thing to do is buy the plane ticket. Mine was purchased on July 25.
• Do not forget to buy the JRPass (not too early or too late: I think there are deadlines). I bought mine at an agency specializing in trips to Japan, Paris.
• The most difficult is to book hotels in advance. The Internet is increasingly easy to do via email, even if your written English speakers will not always understandable. I started around September 8.
• Well, once it all done, it'll just take a glance meets your schedule, and ... what to pack!
• Just for this is the case, remember to bring some used drugs. A good pair of sneakers as well (I had my light bulbs). Autumn in Japan did not seem as cold as in Paris, but do not forget your sweater and your jacket. In any case, it is much drier than autumn in France!
